- Instant Servers offers superior virtual server performance, the best SLAs, and the most reliable service. Customers can achieve significantly lower operating costs by serving more workloads per virtual machine compared to other offerings in the market
November 6, 2012 – Today marks the global launch by Telefónica Digital of Instant Servers (cloud.telefonica.com/instantservers), an Infrastructure-as-a-Service offering that delivers on-demand, high performance cloud computing for developers, digital businesses and large enterprises. The service is optimised for mobile, enterprise, and M2M applications. With data centres in the UK and Spain, Instant Servers is backed by Telefónica’s world-class infrastructure management and services capabilities.
Customers will benefit from the reassurance of a market-leading service level agreement (SLA) of 99.996% per year backed by a financial compensation in the event of non-compliance. Instant Servers also achieves lower operational costs allowing customers to serve more workloads per virtual machine when compared to other public cloud services.
Carlos Morales, Telefónica Digital’s Cloud and M2M Director, said: “With the launch of Instant Servers Telefónica Digital seeks to meet the needs of thousands of businesses that require a cloud services platform that is easily scalable, with low latency and totally trustworthy, enabling them not only to rapidly respond to their own needs, but also to the expectations of their customers. This can all be done with significant cost savings as customers only pay for the type of cloud services they require and the time they use them for. This offering completes our portfolio of services to meet our business customer needs”.
Customers will be able to acquire, manage, monitor and control their virtual servers quickly and simply via the cloud.telefonica.com/instantservers/ website at all times.
They can also acquire new servers of the size, operating system and applications they want, delete the servers they no longer need and manage the capacity of any SmartOS server or application. Customers can manage all of these variables in accordance with the demand specified at any given time without having to reboot or disconnect the server and without any additional cost.
Instant Servers’ cloud computing infrastructure is built on Joyent’s cloud infrastructure, a high-performance cloud infrastructure that is the only solution specifically built to power real-time web, enterprise and mobile applications. Unlike other cloud solutions, Instant Servers’ virtual server can automatically and instantly grow in capacity by 400% to handle large spikes in usage or traffic.
Virtualized machines on the Instant Servers cloud can resize an entire application stack without rebooting or requiring down time. Advanced caching enables better performance through superior utilization of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM). Further, Instant Servers runs on top of the Zettabyte File System (ZFS), enterprise grade storage and file system that delivers 100% data resiliency and integrity.
The two Instant Servers data centres, located in Madrid, Spain and London, United Kingdom, comply with the highest security standards and are linked to Telefónica’s global fibre optic network, which provides high-speed and low latency for Instant Servers customers. Telefónica plans to deploy additional data centres in Europe and Latin America.
Instant Servers is the first Telefónica trademark product to be sold directly to companies over the Internet on a worldwide basis. It joins a number of services that Telefónica Digital is marketing directly to customers, including TU Me, a free communications app, and Telefónica Dynamic Insights, a new unit created to open up opportunities presented by Big Data.
